Rannoch Moor

Rannoch Moor

Rannoch Moor is a National Heritage site of Scotland.

Rannoch Moor occupies approximatley 50 square miles of boggy moorland to the west of Loch Rannoch, in Perthshire. As a National Heritage site, Rannoch Moor is notable for its abundant wildlife.

This is a walkers paradise, as there is no way to cross Rannoch Moor from east to west except by foot! A ten mile track links Rannoch Station – the last point that you can drive to - with the Kings House Hotel on the A82 at the western side of Rannoch Moor. Although this distance is relatively short, he shortest route by car from Kings House Hotel back to Rannoch Station is over 100 miles long – so some of the fittest may be quicker walking!

South to North is linked by the West Highland Way, bringing weary walkers across this remarkable baron landscape. Soft ground, caused by large peat deposits make it very difficult to build roads and railways across Rannoch Moor.
