Schiehallion

Schiehallion is a prominent mountain in Perthshire. Popular with walkers due to it being easily accessible and relativley easy to climb and at the top you are rewarded with spectacular views.

Schiehallion is often described as the centre of Scotland - the line of latitude midway between the most northerly and southerly points on the Scottish mainland, and the line of longitude midway between the most easterly and westerly points, passes close by the summit of Schiehallion.

At an altitude of 1083 metres, Schiehallion is listed as a Munro – good access paths make Schiehallion a good introduction to Munro Baggers! The lower slopes of the mountain are heather clad leading up to steep upper regions. On a clear day fantastic views across Loch Rannoch are well worth making the long climb.

Schiehallion's eastern side is owned by the John Muir Trust; and an interesting fact is that in 1774 it was selected by Charles Mason for a experiment to estimate the mass of the Earth!
